That’s right, you heard it here. Is it because NormalJoe and Freddie Taylor have branded me as the “4 month vacation girl?” No. Is it because I’m burnt out on traveling across the country at the last minute? No. It’s because… this morning I awoke to the sound of my Mexican and Canadian bank accounts feeling the currency drop. Yep, that’s right, BrilliantJENi not-so-brilliantly thought her funds were safe in these foreign banks and lost thousands of dollars for really, no reason at all. Whoosh. Down the toilet.
So, after twittering the fate of my beloved passive income earnings, practicing my Spanish swear words with a very unconcerned banker, and indecisively swaying from nausea to hyperventilation… I remembered something: I can make more. That’s right, one of the benefits of being a web publisher is that you can make as much freaking money as you want.
I have decided I will earn double the money that I have lost, by February 2009.
My first plan of attack is to answer my emails, complete my daily blog rounds, and then go out and drink as many white russians as I can possibly get my hands on- not to grieve for my loss. Oh no. TO CELEBRATE. I am going to celebrate the fact that this new inspiration has simply fallen into my lap and given me a new challenge and finally… a reason, to get back to work.
Special thanks to Freddie, the motivational blog wonder and NormalJoe for this morning’s post on how thoughts effect your success. Great timing!

Ha well at least four months isn't so bad. I managed a month this year so I'm quite envious. I look forward to reading how you're going to make the money back and wish you good luck.

I would celebrate with you but it's too early for White Russians here….but maybe I can go continental style and sneak a little Grappa into my morning coffee

It's not only the internet though, with a dream and some determination you can achieve anything in life!
Normal Joe 10.10.08 at 2:39 am
Yes! Do it! You already know whatsup, I'm watching you and I'll be keeping you on it! Work that thang girl!
And when you do - all that lost $$ will be back where it was 2 weeks ago, plus you’ll have all that earned moola as well. The market will come back in time & your share megaportfolio will be worth just as much, or more!
I feel sorry for Iceland though - their economy is in the can & about to get flushed. That changes the rules.

And just think? Once you've doubled your money, you can change your name to the 4 YEAR vacation girl! OK, maybe not quite. But close.
Ok guys- bear with me while I change my comment system. I’m giving coComment a try after meeting their crew at Blog World in Vegas. So far, I’m loving it! Just might need Eric Lehr’s (coComment man) help so I don’t screw up the install! (Harass Eric here: http://twitter.com/ericlehr)
@richhill I have to tell you, your icon cracks me up every time I see it! And you’re right- play time is over. Lucky for me, my work is play
Yee haw!
@clog money I will definitely stick to niche sites and mostly AdSense as my chosen money-maker. I have a few projects in the works, and a several more I’ll be starting. Making money online is not hard- it’s just time-consuming! lol
@underblogger white Russians for breakfast are one of life’s greatest treats, but I can wait until 8 pm your time…. if I must

Hey, I was just telling Garry Conn how I can’t believe how much comment-ground you cover. You are just everywhere!
@normaljoe What can I say to Mr. web-phenom. You’re the man! Thanks for the motivation and the sammiches. Loooooved your John Cow interview! If anyone has not checked out Joe’s interview on John Cow…. http://www.johncow.com/traffic-from-commenting-johncow-interviews-imwithjoecom
@hunchy Sooooo sad for Iceland. Another reason I should consider myself lucky. Makes you appreciate how fortunate you really are, doesn’t it.
@kestrachern See, now that was funny until I corrected my word-error. Now, NO ONE WILL EVER KNOW WHAT YOU’RE TALKING ABOUT. Serves you right, smarta$$! xoxo LMAO
@adam Oh man! I am so sorry to hear about your 401k. That is an unfortunate loss. We’ll make our comeback together! You just watch!
@wordvixen I don’t think I could take the “4 year vacation girl” jokes from jsuite and freddietaylor! In the words of NormalJoe; “sum bees.”
Guys, when I switched from Disqus, I unfortunately lost a lot of my commentluv links
- feel free to pimp your blogs- leave me an xoxo just to get your link love back!
Give ‘er Jeni! Just get up and give ‘er.
The old technique of keeping your money under your matress stands more true today than it ever did. Keep your loot off the grid, and out of the banks - let the market do it’s thing, and when it’s the right time - enter that market and cash out. Whether it’s exchange rate or a sweet interest rate… Having your money on the grid is not the way to go these days.. Veronica lost over 2 G’s in her RRSP’s… Just like that!

Hi, Jeni! I just thought I’d stop in and offer you a little encouragement too! I am a reader over on Joe’s blog and when I saw what you said about doubling what you’ve lost by February 2009, I was amazed and inspired by your resolve. I don’t know much about you, but something tells me you’re gonna meet that goal!

Gosh Jeni, this is the first time for me on your blog and it grieves me to hear such pain and misery. You do seem to look on the bright side of things though, which is marvelous and wonderful. (its ok I don’t always talk like this… I have these funny turns sometimes)
Hope to see you back blogging again soon.
@elijah Oh man, poor Veronica! That totally sucks and I hope that turns around lickity split! *bacon and pineapple*
@Dustin Thank you so much! That really means a lot. I subscribed to your blog too and really liked your recent post. Looking forward to the next one!

Ya, that’s what I’m going to call you from now on! MBW- In fact, I know you have an MBA so you can just tag MBW in your signature now too! Thanks for the inspiration- talk about good timing
@Nate You know, I really am a positive person but I would sooooo be fibbing if I said I didn’t freak out when I first realized what had happened. I am sooooo very glad I had my friends to snap me out of it quickly and get back on track. In the end, it’s really about getting from point A to point BHappy.
Okay, I’m going to ask… how much did you actually lose? Of course, you don’t have to tell me, but damn, it seems like a LOT!

LOLLLLLLL Rock On with da White Russians!! ;)) Peace*
@Jay Let’s just say it would have been enough for a quick trip around the world.
@billywarhol Cheers!
Its good to see that you are using your misfortune as a way to inspire you in your endeavor to not only regain what you have lost but to aim for even greater heights. Most people would just wallow bitchin’ to everyone about how cruel the world has been to them.

You reminded me of my dictionary story - I never thought I would tell this online but you really reminded me.
Its nothing in comparison, really, but there was a time, offline, when I was really struggling. I had barely any money - not even for simple things, because I was dedicating all of my time to volunteer work etc.
One day I went to the library to borrow some language CDs. I put them in a big pocket of my coat. The pocket had a hole, and later I realized I had lost them. I couldn’t find them anywhere.
It turned out that the fee for losing a few CDs was about $250. That doesn’t sound like a lot, but for me at that time, it was a LOT.
I went through all kinds of pain and agony of regret and then I made a decision. I decided I would get innovative and earn that money back plus more. I started selling my old stuff. I started buying and selling dictionaries - I was able to make a lot that way, because of where I was … (but that’s another story).
I just kept going and going. I earned back the money for the library and then more. I kept earning more money. I sold dictionaries for a year. I never had problems buying the little things in life again, even though I was still doing volunteer work.
That went on for a year or two and then I started working online and earning money that way too.
All because I had to pay $250 to the library!

@anna That is such a great story! Absolutely loved it- thank you for sharing. It’s amazing the things that come about to inspire you, but particularly some challenges, are certainly a blessing in disguise.
Cannot believe those language cd’s were $250!
