Let me tell you what a cool guy Joel Comm is! It’s 10:50 am on Wednesday morning and NormalJoe (Imwithjoe.com) and I are chatting live with Joel Comm and a few other lucky people. Ha! Joel Comm answered my question and gave me a “BrilliantJeni” shout out which made me laugh. He also shot me a private message related to one of my questions. What a great way to start a morning.
So one of my questions was about how to identify trends for niche website opportunities. I was a bit surprised when Joel said he used nothing fancy- good old Google Trends, Google Zeitgeist, and “going into stores and asking staff about trends in whatever topic.” That last one might just be a brilliant idea.
Other tips from Joel- get off Blogger.com. Suggested WordPress.

Funnily enough, that last idea is a great idea and something I have been doing myself recently. I took a break from my online stuff and actually went out into the real world…they have shops and everything there
If I might add another odd ball way of finding niche ideas…..ASK YOUR MOTHER! Roughly translated as get off the internet and go into the real world - ask everyone, your mum, your brother, your friends and your colleagues
My mum was back in the country recently and I spent half a day giving her a run down on what it is I actually do. Surprisingly, she took a keen interest in it and was loving wordtracker. Once I had explained the basic process, she was away… and came up with some ideas that I never, in a million years, would have thought of. Cheers Mum!
Gather up a ist of suggestions and then head back into your hideaway to run your research.
